Courage Campaign fights to hold our political leaders and most powerful corporations accountable to the will of the people.
It's outrageous that Republican legislators in California are using taxpayer dollars to intentionally mislead their constituents, sow fear and confusion, and divert Californians away from CoveredCA.com -- California's health insurance exchange under Obamacare. They must take down the site immediately.
6 states -- including Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, West Virginia, and Texas -- think they are above the law of the land and are refusing to allow same-sex married couples in the National Guard to register for spousal benefits despite a federal mandate. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel has ordered “immediate action” for these states to comply with the law, but so far they are not backing down. He's on our side, but now we need to make him finish the job.
The cost of living in San Francisco has spiraled out of control, but Mayor Lee refuses to act. Big banks and wealthy investors continue to build expensive new developments where only the wealthiest 1% can afford to live, driving up prices and forcing working families out of the city. Mayor Lee must start representing everyone who lives in San Francisco, not just the rich.
We need your input before we gear up to take on the National Organization for Marriage (NOM)’s latest and most regressive attack against our transgender youth in California. They are currently gathering signatures for a 2014 ballot measure. If we’re going to act, we need to act now. As a member-driven organization, Courage Campaign must consult with our members before taking an official position on ballot measures. We need 60% of our members to agree with our staff recommendation.
Please help us decide whether or not to weigh in on the fight for affordable housing in San Francisco around the 8 Washington development. Read the pro and con arguments to Propositions B & C and let us know where you stand as a Courage member. As a member-driven organization, Courage Campaign must consult with our members before taking an official position on ballot measures. We need 60% of our members to agree with our staff recommendation.
San Diego does NOT need a right-wing conservative legislation factory like ALEC writing laws for our city. This is what ALEC (American Legislative Exchange Council) has done in states like Wisconsin with "Right-to-Work" and Florida with "Stand Your Ground," each proposed by ALEC and lobbied for in state legislatures across the country. Who supports ALEC? Big name conservatives like Karl Rove, the Koch Brothers, and here in San Diego -- Nathan Fletcher.
Governor Brown vetoed a historic, bi-partisan bill that would have begun to rollback California's catastrophic "War on Drugs." In doing so, he confirmed our worst fears that he cares more about appearing "tough on crime" than advancing good solutions for California, as he prepares to run for re-election. The only way we can stand strong and speak truth to power in times like these is if we're financially independent. We can't be beholden to anyone but YOU, our members. Do you have our back?
Governor Brown VETOED the LIFE (Lifesaving Intelligent Firearms Enforcement) Act, including a bill that would have created the nation's first loophole-free assault weapons ban. He chose to put craven political considerations above the safety and well-being of California’s more than 38 million residents. Please donate so we can make sure Gov. Brown hears your voice, as we share the stories of Californians lost to gun violence and educate him about the value of gun safety.
Speaker Boehner's shutdown is kicking ABUSED WOMEN onto the street. Domestic violence shelters and rape crisis programs across the country have begun losing the federal funding they need to keep their doors open, forcing out vulnerable women and children. SIGN THE PETITION HERE.
The GOP-controlled House of Representatives decided to shut down the government rather than pass a spending bill that funds the Affordable Care Act, even though the Supreme Court already upheld the legislation. And while hundreds of thousands of hard-working federal employees will stop receiving the paychecks they need to feed their families and pay their mortgages, Congress will continue to get paid for refusing to do the job they were elected to do. Sign our petition to demand that Congress lose their paychecks until they come to a resolution.
