Accountability

Courage Campaign fights to hold our political leaders and most powerful corporations accountable to the will of the people.

LA + Parks = Awesome (YES on Measure A!)

Fifty-one percent of LA County residents don’t live within a ten minute walk of a park. By comparison, in New York, that number is less than 5%. Luckily Measure A would help bridge that gap.

Measure A would provide funding through an annual parcel tax of 1.5 cents per square foot to raise up to $94 million annually to update and build local parks, improve recreation and senior centers, plant drought tolerant landscaping, and more.

SIGN THE PETITION: Stand with Colin Kaepernick

Black Americans and their allies around the country are protesting persistent mistreatment by police. Now one famous athlete -- Colin Kaepernick, quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers -- is standing up for black lives by sitting down during the national anthem.

Kaepernick's statement shows real courage. And it has been powerfully effective, elevating the central narrative of the Movement for Black Lives in the press. But it's also made him a target of racist hate and conservatives in the media who have the audacity to question his patriotism.

Tell Governor Brown: Give farm workers fair overtime pay!

Farm workers are vital to our well-being as a nation. But for nearly 100 years, they've been treated like second-class citizens and denied real overtime.

AB 1066 is a commonsense solution that will give farm workers eligibility for overtime pay. That is why we must urge Governor Brown to swiftly sign this bill into law as a champion in the struggle for fairness and equity for farm workers.

Keep Wall Street Honest: End Forced Arbitration

Think consumers should be able to sue corporations that have wronged them? Today’s the day to speak up.

Buried in many contracts you’ve signed -- for loans, credit cards, and even Pokemon Go -- you’ll find a “ripoff clause” in the very, very, very fine print. These clauses stipulate that consumers cannot band together in a class action suit to protest unfair fees, seek damages due to dangerous products, or otherwise protest wrongdoing. As pointed out in the New York Times, “Without the ability to pool resources, most people abandon their claims and never make it to arbitration.”

SIGN THE PLEDGE: I'm fasting for farm workers!

NOTE: FASTING CAN BE DANGEROUS. THOSE WITH HEALTH ISSUES OR CONCERNS THAT MAY BE AFFECTED BY FASTING SHOULD NOT PARTICIPATE. ANYONE UNSURE OR WITH QUESTIONS SHOULD CONSULT THEIR DOCTOR BEFORE PARTICIPATING.

Farm workers are vital to our well-being as a nation. But for nearly 100 years, they’ve been treated like second-class citizens and denied real overtime.

But right now, we have an opportunity to right this wrong with Assembly Bill 1066 by Assemblymember Lorena Gonzalez.

SIGN THE PETITION: Investigate relationship between Trump and Russia

Something smells fishy about the relationship between Donald Trump and Russian dictator, Vladimir Putin.

First, there were widespread reports that Russia may have been behind the recent cyber attacks on Democratic political organizations, as well as leaks that seemed uniquely timed to help Trump’s campaign. Then Trump asked the Russian government to spy on the United States. Now there are questionable reports about financial ties between Trump and Russian oligarchs with close connections to Putin, and longstanding relationships between high-ranking Trump advisors and pro-Russian politicians.

SIGN THE PETITION: No national security briefings for Donald Trump

Donald Trump just asked Vladimir Putin, Russia's dangerous dictator, to commit espionage on Secretary Hillary Clinton and publicize state secrets that could threaten the security of the United States. Trump’s unprecedented request is not only dangerous, it may also violate federal law. What’s even more horrifying is that, as the Republican Nominee for President, Trump is scheduled to start receiving classified national security briefings as early as tomorrow.

Donald Trump is a very real, dangerous, and serious threat to our national security. And he should not be let within 10 feet of any classified security information. We must join together and raise a massive outcry NOW before it’s too late!

Find a "Building Courage" neighbor-to-neighbor project in person training Event Near You

YOUR state representative made Courage Campaign's Hall of Shame in our People's Report Card of California for putting corporate interests over the needs and interests of their constituents. And on the weekend of July 23 and 24th, Courage members from Long Beach, Los Angeles, Stockton, and San Bernardino will join together to help launch our new "Building Courage" neighbor-to-neighbor project to hold them accountable. We will train members on how to plan, recruit for, and lead in-district meetings with their state representatives.

No More Super-Delegates: Party leaders should never trump the will of the voters

Under the current Democratic Party nominating rules, 712 "super-delegates" -- elected officials and well-connected members of the party -- are free to support any candidate for the presidential nomination at the party's national convention. They have the power to overrule the will of voters in a close contest.

The super-delegate system is unrepresentative, contradicts the purported values of the party and its members, and reduces the party’s moral authority.

Tell Apple CEO Tim Cook: Don't fund hate!

Just two days after Apple announced that it would not support a Republican National Convention led by Donald Trump and his hate-filled campaign, news broke that Apple's CEO Tim Cook was planning to host a private fundraiser for GOP House Speaker Paul Ryan and other House Republicans in Menlo Park, CA.

It is saddening to see that just days after taking the courageous stand to not align with Trump's brand of racism, vitriol and misogyny, Apple CEO Tim Cook is planning to help raise money for the same Republicans that are backing Donald Trump.
