Yesterday, Attorney General Kamala Harris announced that she would NOT agree to the current settlement deal with the Big Banks since it is "inadequate for California." She refused to join the settlement -- despite monumental pressure from the Big Banks, as well as the Obama Administration.

UPDATE: AG Harris eventually signed onto a massively revised national settlement deal in January of 2012. Thanks to AG Harris the deal guaranteed $18 billion for California, a massive improvement over what had been initially proposed.

Seven million Californians have no access to an employer's retirement plan and half will have to live on $5 a day when they retire, if they can. Support SB 1234 and give low-wage workers a chance at retirement without risking a penny of taxpayer dollars.

Right now, Sacramento legislators are deciding whether to vote for the interests of the middle-class or cave under pressure from the Big Banks. All the key votes will come from Democrats, but unless they know we're watching, they might vote with the banks. Challenge them to do the right thing!

There is an epic showdown coming next month as our country faces the "fiscal cliff" -- the Bush tax cuts will expire and major budget cuts will be triggered automatically. President Obama backed down on the Bush tax cuts in December 2010, but fresh from winning re-election, we need to make sure he keeps his commitment to end them.
