The Millionaires Tax campaign is over. After mobilizing massive grassroots support for the initiative, we convinced Gov. Brown to combine his proposed initiative with ours creating Proposition 30, which passed with 55% of the vote in November 2012!
Courage Campaign fights for an economy that works for everyone, not just the wealthy few.
Watch the video and see how Assemblymember Felipe Fuentes (D-Los Angeles) treats bank lobbyists in comparison to his constituents.
California's Attorney General, Kamala Harris, announced a new package of bills dubbed the Homeowners Bill of Rights, a powerful step toward ending the mortgage nightmare the Big Bank's have inflicted on California's homeowners.
Yesterday, Attorney General Kamala Harris announced that she would NOT agree to the current settlement deal with the Big Banks since it is "inadequate for California." She refused to join the settlement -- despite monumental pressure from the Big Banks, as well as the Obama Administration. Kamala Harris is a hero -- the spirit of courage -- fighting for right even if the establishment and conventional wisdom are against her.
UPDATE: AG Harris eventually signed onto a massively revised national settlement deal in January of 2012. Thanks to AG Harris the deal guaranteed $18 billion for California, a massive improvement over what had been initially proposed.
We helped pass a whopping 7 pieces of progressive legislation for California this year, including Election Day Voter Registration, the Homeowner Bill of Rights, a ban on Sexual Orientation Change "Therapy" for Minors, the California Secure Choice Retirement Savings Program, and Multilingual Ballot Measure Access.
Seven million Californians have no access to an employer's retirement plan and half will have to live on $5 a day when they retire, if they can. Support SB 1234 and give low-wage workers a chance at retirement without risking a penny of taxpayer dollars.
UPDATE: We won! A strong Homeowner Bill of Rights was signed into law on July 11, 2012. All Democrats in the California Legislature supported it!
We did it! After four years of work, we passed the Homeowner Bill of Rights through the California Legislature. We proved that even in this age of unparalleled corporate power, a smart, creative, and relentless campaign can beat back the corporate lobbyists. It's a proud day, but corporate lawyers are no doubt already concocting new ways to try and work around the rules to gouge homeowners, renters, and the rest of the middle class.
WATCH our new video exposing Asm. Felipe Fuentes (D-Los Angeles) as he sells out the middle-class to do dirty work for the Big Banks. Fuentes refuses to back the Homeowners Bill of Rights, despite 381,461 foreclosures in Los Angeles County. $112,475 in campaign donations from the mortgage industry must be very convincing.
