6 states -- including Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, West Virginia, and Texas -- think they are above the law of the land and are refusing to allow same-sex married couples in the National Guard to register for spousal benefits despite a federal mandate. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel has ordered “immediate action” for these states to comply with the law, but so far they are not backing down. He's on our side, but now we need to make him finish the job.

Speaker Boehner: Don’t stand in the way of equal employment for LGBT Americans. Allow a vote on ENDA.
Did you know you can still be fired for being gay in 29 states and for being transgender in 33 states? The Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) would ban discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in the workplace. ENDA just passed the Senate with a bipartisan majority and Speaker Boehner at least needs to allow an up-or-down vote in the House of Representatives, even if he doesn't support the bill himself.
Public universities and community colleges are drowning in debt to Wall Street due to predatory loans, and the schools have responded by passing the cost of these bad loans on to students in the form of HIGHER tuition fees. We need the Dept. of Education to investigate this predatory lending now and you can help make it happen by clicking here!
'Generation Opportunity,' a Koch Brothers funded front group, is using highly polished, deceptive, anti-Obamacare ad campaigns to target college students on campus and young working Americans to get them to opt out of the Affordable Care Act. Join our Obamacare Reality Response Team and help stop the Koch Brothers from using their misleading and lying ads to destroy Obamacare!
We need your input before we gear up to take on the National Organization for Marriage (NOM)’s latest and most regressive attack against our transgender youth in California. They are currently gathering signatures for a 2014 ballot measure. If we’re going to act, we need to act now. As a member-driven organization, Courage Campaign must consult with our members before taking an official position on ballot measures. We need 60% of our members to agree with our staff recommendation.
Governor Brown vetoed a historic, bi-partisan bill that would have begun to rollback California's catastrophic "War on Drugs." In doing so, he confirmed our worst fears that he cares more about appearing "tough on crime" than advancing good solutions for California, as he prepares to run for re-election. The only way we can stand strong and speak truth to power in times like these is if we're financially independent. We can't be beholden to anyone but YOU, our members. Do you have our back?
Governor Brown VETOED the LIFE (Lifesaving Intelligent Firearms Enforcement) Act, including a bill that would have created the nation's first loophole-free assault weapons ban. He chose to put craven political considerations above the safety and well-being of California’s more than 38 million residents. Please donate so we can make sure Gov. Brown hears your voice, as we share the stories of Californians lost to gun violence and educate him about the value of gun safety.
Speaker Boehner's shutdown is kicking ABUSED WOMEN onto the street. Domestic violence shelters and rape crisis programs across the country have begun losing the federal funding they need to keep their doors open, forcing out vulnerable women and children. SIGN THE PETITION HERE.
Key bills from the LIFE (Lifesaving Intelligent Firearms Enforcement) Act sit on Gov. Brown's desk -- including a loophole-free assault weapons ban and background checks for ammunition purchases. With the stroke of a pen, he could give California the smartest, safest gun laws in the nation, but he has a poor track record when it comes to gun safety. We must convince Gov. Brown to sign these laws to protect Californians from more senseless gun violence.
SB 649 is a historic & bi-partisan drug sentencing reform bill that will save taxpayer dollars and reduce overcrowding in our prisons by allowing prosecutors to charge non-violent drug possession as a misdemeanor, rather than as a felony. Send an email to Gov. Brown urging him to sign SB 649 to help end the so-called “War on Drugs.”
