As the California Democratic Party's 2008 State Convention begins today in San Jose, expect to hear lots of noise from both high-ranking and grassroots' members regarding Governor Schwarzenegger's willingness to slash our way out of the state's recurring budget deficit by cutting essential programs to the bone.

Our highest ranking officials shall have plenty of face time before the party faithful to get their jabs in on the self-styled centrist governor. One can only guess the headlines that will be printed in the LA Times, and SF Chronicle.

Scheduled speakers include U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, state Congressional Chair Zoe Lofgren, Senate President Don Perata and Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez. Former President Bill Clinton is rumored to make an appearance but there has been no confirmation of this thus far. Don't expect any of them to hold back on Schwarzenegger at this event.

Looking at the convention's agenda, there are plenty of caucus meetings, committee meetings and socials. What is missing, yet assuredly on everyone's mind is if the state's superdelegates to the Democratic National Convention will meet as a group or will be lobbied by activists by supporters of both presidential contenders.
