Meet Tim Goodrich, he's Executive Director of Iraq Veterans for Progress and he's running for a council seat in the City of Torrance. Last Sunday, the Daily Breeze published an unsophisticated letter-to-the-editor attacking Goodrich's well known opposition to the Iraq war.
Apparently, political operatives believe it is morally acceptable to attack the service record of veterans of war who also happen to be Democrats.
In 2002, they sunk Georgia's former U.S. Senator Max Cleland; in 2004 they 'swift-boated" former presidential nominee John Kerry and now Goodrich has become the latest political target.
In the letter, written by a known insider of an opposing candidate's campaign, the author attempts to question Goodrich's integrity about his opposition to this foolish war.
The political hack, couldn't be more deceiving.
At HuffPost Torrance voters will find Goodrich's bio which has been posted there since 2005.
It states:
The former soldier who served three tours of duty in the Middle East, is not taking these attacks lying down. He's fighting back and asking us to join him.
In an email he sent to supporters, such as myself, Tim Goodrich writes:

It states:
- Tim is nationally known as a voice for veterans. He co-founded a national, non-profit veteran's advocacy organization and founded and presently is the Director of Iraq Veterans for Progress which empowers veterans by giving them job training and experience. Tim also volunteers his time to preserve the West Los Angeles VA for use solely by veterans and not allowing it to be leased or sold for commercial use. Additionally, Tim recently authored and passed a resolution supporting tuition assistance for the California National Guard; the only state National Guard to not have an educational assistance program.

- We need leaders who will do the right thing, regardless of the polls. Let's fight back and show that we will not stand for attacks on a veteran who honorably served his country and came back to follow his conscience by speaking out against an illegal war.

However the third and worse condemnation of Mr. Goodrich is this...he is not part of my community. He moved into Torrance with the express idea of running for office. He has no understanding or background for the office he is running for. And even worse his campaign contribution are coming from outside the Torrance area and citizens. If he was running for congress I would have no problems with this...however he is running in a non-partisan race to help govern my city. And he is not running as someone who is passionate about the city, our businesses and quality of life...he is running for his political agenda and future.
I do not support people running for city council who are endorsed by a political party or other politicians, and/or raise money to run outside the city. And I hope that on election day carpetbaggers like Mr. Goodrich will discover that the Torrance Citizenry are not the suckers he seems to think we are.
