20 Most Influential Liberals
|
|
It's interesting to know how folks overseas view our political leaders. The Telegraph, a U.K. newspaper has gone through the thoughtful process of ranking the 100 most influential liberals and conservatives the U.S. has to offer. I have issue with their top choice for donkey.
Here's the list for the top 20 liberals
1. Bill Clinton
2. Al Gore
3. Mark Penn (Clinton hack that does PR work for the likes of Wal-Mart)
4. Hillary Clinton
5. Nancy Pelosi
6. Barack Obama (Only JFK's ascension tops his thus far)
7. Michael Moore (Made it cool for non-political to oppose war)
8. Arnold Schwarzenegger (Yes the Republican governor of California)
9. Oprah Winfrey (Who or what does she influence other than consumers?)
10. Evan Bayh (Fiscally conservative Dem with ambitions on Whitehouse)
11. John Podesta (Is the Center for American Progress really influential?)
12. Markos Moulitsas Zuniga (Kind of Low for the blogosphere phenom)
13. Rahm Emanuel (Given credit for leading Dem takeover of Congress)
14. Jim Webb (Stop asking staff to carry your loaded weapon)
15. George Soros (Funding everything only gets you 15, LOL)
16. Arianna Huffington (Quite high for a reformed Gingrich conservative)
17. Donna Brazille (Hasn't done much lately, maybe this is affirmative action)
18. Richard Holbrooke (Would've been Sec of State for Pres. Gore)
19. Elizabeth Edwards (Fierce, Brave, Sincere)
20. Joan Blades & Wes Boyd (this ranking is disrespectful)
The notes in parenthesis are clearly my personal notes on these individuals. It would take all day to say all that I could about most of these folks, so I'll spare you the boredom.
However, the top choice for most influential liberal is way off the mark. Since 2001 he's published a book offering the reason why he pleasured Monica Lewinsky (because he could), published a new book highlighting companies who green wash and helped Bush 41 and 43 raise money for international tragedies.
The former leader of the free world has nothing to advance the position of his party. Not on Iraq, not on universal health care, not even on the economy.
Beyond that, he's making gobs of money giving forgettable speeches while helping his wife get elected to the oval office so he can sit at his old desk a few more years. He's done nothing influential at all.
His former Vice President, Al Gore Jr. on the other hand has bee quite busy turning the world's attention to global climate change. Several years ago, conservatives assured us this was junk science but Gore's crusade has even Newt Gingrich singing a different tune.
Republican Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger accepted it and revived his political fortunes. Every major company in the world is conjuring fake and real green initiatives they believe will curry favor in the court of public opinion and with liberal minded consumers.
This was Al Gore, not Clinton or anyone else on the list. He took the heat, he should get the credit. Hillary's lucky he's not running for president. Hell, he even won an Oscar for it.
Am I right or wrong? Who's your number one?
