Its Election season in California once again as Democratic activists in every congressional district in the state vie to become delegates for Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama at the party's national convention in August. Suspecting dirty tricks, both campaigns are purging voter lists to ensure their supporters become elected delegates.

According to the Associated Press, both campaigns are Driven by fears that some prospective delegates might be concealing their true allegiances, the campaigns are searching campaign finance data, scouring the Internet and making telephone calls to weed out dubious candidates.

Neither side wants to elect a delegate who might really support their rival, or other candidate.

Most of the cutting was done by Obama. His campaign dropped about 900 potential delegates, compared to about 50 excluded on Clinton's side.

The Congressional Delegate Caucuses being held this Sunday April 13th at 2pm will be held by some combination of the state party and the steering committee of each campaign which are responsible for locating, staffing and running each district level caucus.

According to the basic rules of the state party, candidates to become the technically unpledged "pledged delegates" must be registered Democrats (can also register on the spot) and are allowed to campaign for the position. I have received at least two financial appeals this week and I hear folks in the Bay area are receiving robocalls in support of a slate of candidates. That's hardcore.

Surprisingly enough it may be needed because it appears as though the nomination battle may very well be decided on the convention floor by Sunday's winners come August.

If you're not running but want to support a delegate candidate, you must be at your Congressional Delegation Caucus for your preferred candidate no later than 3pm. The candidates will be allowed to give you a one minute speech and then you can vote and leave immediately after if you choose to do so.

Vote tabulations are to be done on site and announced promptly. Oh and one major caveat, the state party has strict rules about electing an equal number of female delegates to convention and states softer goals regarding ethnic diversity.

All progressives should be there in full force, lord knows the moderates and party traditionals will be there.

In fact, you should check with the California Democratic Party's website to find the caucus locations for your preferred democratic candidate and other basic information you may need to know this weekend. Click here to find Clinton Caucuses or here for Obama Caucuses.
