Yacht Party Risking Mass Release of State Prisoners
Bad? Brilliant?

Ever protective of their "Yacht Party" image, the California GOP took the repeated step of blocking a $7 billion plan to improve the state's horrid prison system. This comes in the midst of a court-appointed receiver threatening to unilaterally raid our cash-strapped state treasury to pay for health care and inmate capacity improvements himself. State Republicans also plan to head the state into a trial in Federal Court over this messy situation, which could result in the mass release of prisoners, according to the LA Times.

I know, who cares if criminals are sick and can't get basic medical care. As popular as that position may be, cruel and unusual punishment is technically a violation of the constitution which for the most part still applies to convicted inmates.

Also this is not about sick inmates; it's also about the constant overcrowding at state prisons which are partially responsible for the health crisis behind the walls. If a federal trial is not averted, the California GOP may become complicit in the release of criminals back to our neighborhoods.

Also, it is utterly irresponsible for the state GOP to open the door to allow a judicial receiver to raid state coffers. When that happens, the state and our elected representatives lose all control over the situation and lose funding flexibility to balance our budget.

Republicans are not about law and order, they are for financial chaos and societal disorder wherein tax loopholes are protected and the rest of us are neglected.
