We are a day past Mother's Day, the most unsung holiday in our society and its time to examine how the Governor's proposed budget cuts would impact the women we celebrate on Mother's Day and the children they raise.

According to the California Budget Report (CBR), the governor's proposed budget would disproportionately hurt women, children and seniors.

Mothers who struggle to afford quality healthcare for their children appear to be impacted the most. In short, analysis by CBR reveals that the governor would limit child care services, reduce medical payments by increasing paperwork barriers and limiting reimbursements and reduce funding for family planning services including Teen pregnancy and prevention programs. To boot, he cuts higher education spending at the community college level to ensure young mothers cannot improve their labor skills that can land them a good job that will prevent the need for state assistance.

Tough choices must be made, but we cannot put child care, and vital health programs at risk Mr. Governor.

Budget Cuts

Here is a solution Elliott, how about advocating the idea of a "Tax me more fund" check off box for anyone who believes that politicians should have more of their money. Start a drive to do this ASAP. Since you are so worried about budget cuts that will "hurt women, children and seniors". Go ahead Elliott, walk the walk. Until then, you can still write them a HUGE check anyway I am sure.

In an equal society, everyone should pay their fare share and thus I am willing.

Since you'd like to go down this road, why don't we check with everyone else whose tax dollars go to provide you with public services like water, police, and fire and see how many of them want to keep funding someone who's opposed to sharing the collective burden of society?

Do you have a well?

You and others are just too stupid to know that taxes are for the benefit of politicians and their lap dog supporters. The higher the taxes the more powerful the politicians get. I have never seen a poor or poverty stricken politician. They can get a new car or SUV, a full tank of gas, it gets repaired when needed, they can travel any where in the world using tax money. While I see everyday working people, waiting for the SLOW arriving government buses, in the rain, cold and snow.

No Problem at All
By Elliott D. Petty May 13th 2008 at 12:19 pm PDT
I do so every year. What is your issue with that or the social safety net it affords those who are in need?

It must be done if we are to have a decent public education system to which we are constitutinally entitled or a public health system that protects us all.

Taxes finance the benefits and services we enjoy.

A social safety net is called; a church, a charity,(a)family member(s),(a)friend(s), (a)neighbor etc, not government. Since you believe "we are...entitled to a public health system...a decent public education system", why don't you just change your birth records to show that the government are your parents.
Churches are not the ones I see in the bible

I have never seen a church ever give up a penny to help any one but them self. Personally, if they dont keep their mouth shut and stay out of politics they need to start paying taxes so they can have the privilage and the right to free speech. Speech is not free. You pay for everthing you say and everthing you do! I have never seen a church pay my rent or put food on my table or give me health care. Churches take from society they dont give nothing back. Personelly, I think churches should be treated like a corporation. They need to pay their fair share for the freedoms we enjoy today. They should pay at least 30% in taxes that way they can rant and rave all they want! The rich use churches like they use foundation has a means of avoid paying taxes that they have been trying to avoid doing all of thier lives.
