Courage Campaign Statement on Charlottesville

Statement from Eddie Kurtz, executive director of the California-based Courage Campaign:

“Courage Campaign’s more than 1.4 million members across the country stand in solidarity with all those who resisted white supremacist ideology and violence in Charlottesville this weekend.  Our hearts go out to all those who were targeted, harassed, terrified, attacked, or killed by neo-nazis this weekend.

“Racism, sexism, homophobia, and anti-semitism, all of which were on display by white supremacists as they rioted in Charlottesville, are all too common in American society.  We recognize that these evils are more complex than just Nazis rioting in Charlottesville - they are deep, systemic problems that have plagued our country since its founding and continue to fuel injustices that impact people everyday.  Throughout our history, courageous Americans have stood together to stop this hate - and we must have the courage to stand together against it now.

“As we reflect on the events in Charlottesville and offer support to those who were targeted, we will recommit ourselves to fighting these white supremacist ideologies wherever they appear - whether overtly or in the shadows.”
