SACRAMENTO – In response to comments Governor Schwarzenegger made one week ago, the Courage Campaign Issues Committee (www.couragecampaign.org), will be delivering 2,148 copies of the “Presidential Election Reform Act,” better known as the “dirty trick initiative,” to Governor Schwarzenegger’s office at 3 p.m. today.
On August 23, Gov. Schwarzenegger said:
“I haven’t looked at the language and I’m not saying I’m against it or I’m for it or anything.”
Said Rick Jacobs, Chair of Courage Campaign’s Issues Committee, “Thousands of Californians have made one simple request of the governor: please spend five minutes and read the initiative closely. The next time the Governor is asked publicly about this initiative, he will no longer have an excuse to play dumb about this partisan dirty trick.”
At 3 p.m. today (Aug. 31), the Courage Campaign will be hand delivering the letters and copies of the initiative to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s office in the Capitol.

This unprecedented partisan power-grab would dictate a re-allocation of about twenty of California’s fifty-five Electoral College votes, virtually assuring Republicans stay in the White House, regardless of the popular vote in November.
Julia Rosen, a prominent blogger and key Courage Campaign strategist, said “The Republicans are pushing this dirty trick in an attempt to steal the election and our “post-partisan” governor is claiming ignorance. Has he failed to grasp the lessons of the 2005 election? In California, partisan power grabs are unacceptable and divisive.”
Said Jerome Armstrong, MyDD founder and co-author of “Crashing the Gate” with DailyKos founder Markos Moulitsas, “Republicans would rather radically upend California’s election laws to favor themselves than change their extremist ideology that’s so out of step with the people.”

Courage Campaign has also received thousands of pledges from Californians and Americans across the country to fight this dirty trick initiative. The pledge, including references to the New York Times editorial, is available here:
