Courage Campaign Success Stories
Decline-to-State GOTV campaign and "Double Bubble" debacle in Los Angeles
The Courage Campaign waged a massive multimedia campaign to target 1.1 million independents to vote in California’s Democratic Party primary on Super Tuesday and then won an unprecedented voting rights victory after tens of thousands of Los Angeles County voters were disenfranchised by a flawed “double bubble” ballot. As the Los Angeles Times highlighted in a front-page article on the “double bubble” debacle”, the Courage Campaign legal team uncovered the ballot flaw and then leveraged 32,802 petition signatures, grassroots and netroots pressure, and the threat of a lawsuit to force the Registrar to count 47,153 ballots previously discarded.
