Take Action

Make calls to win back the House!

7 of the 23 seats we need to win back the House are in California. Learn more at CAcounts.org. These are Republican seats that voted for Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump in 2016. We have a real chance of having Democrats on the ballot in all seven of those districts, but our hopes may be dashed if we don't turn out voters for the primary on June 5.

Write a Letter to the Editor to help save net neutrality in California

In a few short weeks, the California State Senate will vote on SB 822 by Senator Scott Wiener -- the strongest net neutrality protections proposed across the country. But now AT&T and Comcast's army of lobbyists are doing everything in their power to stop it.

One powerful way you can help build support and spark public conversation is by sending a letter to the editor in your local and regional newspapers. Will you take a few moments to send a letter to local and regional newspapers to protect net neutrality in California?

Deliver California Values Act petitions to your city council or mayor

We've automatically delivered petition signatures to mayors around California via email. But there is nothing more powerful than meetings with constituents to encourage elected officials to take action. We'll provide basic support and guidance, including an electronic copy of petition signatures for you to present during your meeting!

Will you meet with your mayor or attend a meeting of your city council or county supervisors?

Don't let police officers get away with breaking the law!

Senate Bill 1421, by Nancy Skinner, limits a 1970s-era law that keeps police disciplinary records from the public. When a police officer shoots or sexually assaults a member of the public, the community deserves to know what happenedMore importantly, we deserve to know how the department responded so we can determine whether the systems meant to hold officers accountable for their actions are working.

Sign our emergency petition calling on lawmakers to support public accountability for police officers by passing SB 1421.

Support California's Police Accountability and Community Safety Act

Momentum is building behind a new California bill that would allow police officers to use deadly force only when "necessary to prevent imminent and serious bodily injury or death." This groundbreaking law -- the first of its kind in the entire country -- would prevent police officers from killing people without justification, and it would clear the way for them to be held accountable if they cross the line. Local departments would revise their use of force policies and put greater emphasis on de-escalation in their training.

Sign the petition and ask your assembly member to support the Police Accountability and Community Safety Act now.

Call on California mayors and local government officials to support our immigrant communities

Attorney General Jeff Sessions is suing California for shielding immigrant communities from the Trump administration’s terroristic immigration policies. And now a number of California cities are voting to attack our immigrant friends and neighbors by undermining the California Values Act.

That’s why we’re calling on California mayors and local government officials to explicitly support the California Values Act. Now more than ever is it imperative that our representatives stand up for immigrant communities under attack and set an example for the country. Sign the petition and ask your mayor and local government officials to support the California Values Act now.

Stop the Trump-Russia cover-up!

Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee have closed its investigation into ties between the Trump campaign and Russia, claiming they’ve found no evidence of collusion.

Thankfully, Democrats on the Intelligence Committee are releasing their own report showing the many questions left unanswered and unexplored by the Republican leadership. We need to back the Democratic report, and delegitimize the Republicans’ decision to end the inquiry. Will you sign our emergency petition to Congress demanding a complete investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election?

Tell Visa: stop processing assault weapon transactions

Almost 50,000 Courage Campaign members have called on Visa to stop facilitating the sale of assault weapons.

Can you help us ramp up the pressure on Visa and other credit card companies by helping flood their phone lines this week?

Stop Trump’s offshore drilling “plan”

Donald Trump wants to open nearly every inch of the U.S. coast to offshore drilling -- even in California, where drilling hasn't been allowed for 30 years.

But Trump won’t be able to get away with it without the support of Republican members of Congress in coastal states, many of whom are vulnerable in 2018Join us in telling Congress to oppose Trump's offshore drilling plan.

Tell financial services companies to stop enabling assault weapons sales

The shortest path to reduce gun violence and limit the sale of assault weapons won’t run through Congress -- it runs through the banking and financial services industry.

With a simple change to their terms of service, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and other credit card companies and payment processors can stop accepting or processing payments from retailers that sell assault weapons, bump stocks, and other weapons of mass murder. Sign the petition today!
