The Federal Communications Commission is currently debating whether or not to ensure equal access to the internet and the decision could rest on California's shoulders. The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) has a major vote coming up that will have a significant impact on the FCC’s ultimate decision on Net Neutrality for the nation. Californians need to come together to help secure the CPUC’s support for Net Neutrality.
We did it! After a long, hard year of fighting, Google, Facebook and Yelp cut their ties with the extreme right-wing group ALEC (the American Legislative Exchange Council). But internet giants eBay, AOL, and Expedia continue to contribute to ALEC's extremist agenda! If major corporations like Google, Microsoft, Yelp, Facebook and Yahoo had the courage to drop ALEC, then eBay, AOL, and Expedia should have the guts to follow suit. Join us to keep up the pressure on these companies to say NO to ALEC!
Kaiser has admitted guilt and now faces a near record-breaking fine of $4 million for willfully putting the lives of thousands of mental health patients at risk by not providing timely care. But Kaiser still refuses to staff their mental health departments sufficiently enough to handle the overflow of cases. We must ask Gov. Brown to stand up for mental health patients in need of timely treatment, and ensure that Kaiser Permanente makes patient care its number one priority.
Everything we suspected about the relationship between PG&E and their regulator is true. A string of emails just released reveal inappropriate, unethical and dangerous back-channel communications between PG&E and the CPUC in the continuing legal fallout over the 2010 San Bruno gas explosion that killed 8 people and destroyed 38 homes. We must stand together to hold CPUC and PG&E accountable for their incestuous relationship and demand justice for the victims of San Bruno!
Did you know that right now in California police are legally allowed to spy on you and your family using drone surveillance without a warrant?! The State Legislature just approved bipartisan legislation to protect Californians from having their privacy invaded by drones. And Governor Brown needs to hear from YOU now before he decides whether to sign or veto this critical legislation.
If Blue Shield is going to play games with our money, then we are going to play games with them! The so-called “non-profit” insurance company just bought a $2.5 million luxury skybox at the 49ers' new Levi’s stadium with YOUR health care premiums and tax dollars. They claim that the skybox is for “customer events,” but we aren’t buying it. If Blue Shield is going to party in box seats all season using our hard-earned money, we think it’s worth asking for an invite. Don’t you?
This is our LAST CHANCE to rollback California's catastrophic "War on Drugs." Thanks to thousands of Courage members who have been leading the fight for months, the bill to end the racist crack vs. powder cocaine sentencing discrepancy is now sitting on Governor Jerry Brown’s desk! But with the Nov. election around the corner, Gov. Brown might be tempted to veto it. Now more than ever we must join together and speak out as loud as we can to let our governor know where we stand.
Pacific Gas and Electric just received approval to raise California utility rates by $8 a month. Now they're asking for another $5 a month to pay for safety improvements that Californians already paid for! We must hold PG&E accountable for the hundreds of millions of dollars they have already received and demand that they not pass ANOTHER increase onto ratepayers.
Blue Shield just bought a $2.5 million luxury skybox at the 49ers' brand spanking new Levi’s stadium with Californians' healthcare premiums and tax dollars! Healthcare insurers, like Blue Shield, are abusing their "non-profit” tax status by spending billions of taxpayer dollars -- in corporate tax breaks and rising premiums -- on lavish entertainment for corporate VIPs and hefty bonuses for company executives, not patient care. Attorney General Kamala Harris has the authority to hold insurers accountable.
