House Republicans refuse to help the millions of Americans out of work. They want to keep the economy in the gutter through next year's election. Speaker Boehner won't even hold a vote on the American Jobs Act! We need to make him. Join the Courage Campaign and hold Republicans accountable.
Just a few months into our campaign to hold House Government and Oversight Chairman Darrell Issa accountable to his constituents and the American public, and already the San Diego County Republican Party has gone into full-attack mode against the Courage Campaign. When I published an Op-Ed challenging Issa's record, it unleashed a barrage of e-mail blasts, blog posts, and letters to the editor smearing us for daring to challenge the GOPs newly minted “Attack Dog in Chief.”
Sunlight is the best disinfectant. And after the Citizens United decision opened the floodgates for corporate money to influence politics, transparency is needed more now than ever.
When Rep. Issa took the reigns of the Oversight Committee, he promised a hearing a day. But he cancelled a hearing on the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission (FCIC) at the last minute because his staff found documents that "didn't fit the narrative." We don't need a narrative to investigate this issue. Sign this letter to Issa to demand a hearing.
No member of Congress should use his or her position to increase personal wealth, but that is exactly what Rep. Issa did. He secured $815,000 in earmarks to improve neighborhoods where his family holds real estate investments.
