Originally designed to carry 100,000 riders a week, BART now carries over 400,000 riders a day. The tremendous surge in ridership has placed a significant strain on the four decade old train system.
Rent in Alameda is increasing, on average, at 10 times the rate of inflation. Household income, however, has not kept pace. As a result, more and more Alameda residents are unable to afford housing thanks to skyrocketing rents and the rising crisis of “no-cause” evictions. This is unacceptable.
