Moments ago, California Gov. Jerry Brown signed a measure into law that will have reinstate open-internet rules in the state, presenting a direct challenge to the Trump administration’s net-neutrality rollback.

Eddie Kurtz, Executive Director of Courage Campaign, issued the following in response:

“We applaud the leadership of Sen. Scott Wiener, Sen. Kevin de Leon, Asm. Rob Bonta, and Asm. Miguel Santiago, who have done California and the country a great service by helping pass the most powerful net neutrality legislation in the country. Their courageous stand against some of the largest, wealthiest, and most powerful companies in the country--AT&T, Comcast and Verizon--is inspirational, not to mention critical to our democracy.

“Governor Jerry Brown did the right thing today by choosing to institute the strongest net neutrality rules in the country, sending a clear signal to Californians that guaranteeing access to the internet for all, helping California communities--particularly low-income communities--and boosting small businesses is a priority for our state.
